 Performance Opportunity Descriptions

GWYS has numerous performance opportunities throughout the season, some by the entire organization, some by individual groups.  Below is a description of the various performances.  Specific dates are noted on the calendar for the year.  Musicians are expected to be in full black & white concert attire for each performance.

GWYS Concerts – January & May/June – These concerts are for the entire organization to showcase their season’s work to the families and communities.  All 3 orchestras and chamber groups perform at these concerts.  The concert will be located in one of the communities we draw from and tickets are sold for these performances.

Chamber Performances – Chamber Groups are musicians selected by their interest and group instrumentation.  These small groups meet weekly prior to the GWYS rehearsal and are self-driven.  These groups perform at various venues throughout the season.  They have been featured at Waterbury Symphony Orchestra concerts, Barnes & Noble, and the Museum concert.  Advanced musicians wishing to participate must understand the commitment to these extra performances.  There is a nominal fee for participants.

Mattatuck Museum Concert – April – This concert gives an opportunity for all musicians to showcase their individual talent, an alternate instrument, prepare solo material, and perform in a different musical environment.   It is a free performance at the museum, open to the public.  Any musician of any age and experience level may audition on any instrument in the Spring.  Musicians must have their selection prepared, bring accompaniment if needed, and will be selected by the musical staff after auditions.

Concerto Competition- The spring concert will feature a soloist performing a concerto, supported by the Principal Orchestra.  Auditions will be held according to the calendar.  Those auditioning will have submitted an application and had it approved.  They are required to provide their own accompaniment.   See the Concerto Competition Guidelines for more details.
