Coaches
Gjorgj Kroqi
Gjorgj Kroqi is the Music Director of the Greater Waterbury
Youth Symphony and also serves as its’ Cello Coach. He graduated
from the Liceo Artistic Prenk Jakova in
Shkrodra, Albania
majoring in cello performance. He received a Bachelor of Music from
Academy of Fine Arts in Tirana, Albania. Finally he earned a Masters
degree in cello performance from the Hoch Schule Fuer Musik Und
Darstellende Kunst in
Graz, Austria.
Gjogj has appeared with numerous ensembles including the
Academy of
Fine Arts orchestra, the Tirana Radio and Television Symphony
orchestra, both in Albania, and the Chamber Orchestra of Graz in
Austria.
In Connecticut, he performs for the Wallingford, New Britain, and
Waterbury Symphony orchestras.
Since arriving in this country, Gjorgj has spent much of
his time teaching the cello. He has taught in many schools in
Waterbury,
Cheshire, and Middletown. He has also worked with music festivals in
the area in both coaching and performing.
Currently, he teaches the cello for the Fairfield Public
School System, the
Taft
School in Watertown, and strings at the Chase Collegiate School in
Waterbury. He also gives private lessons to dozens of youngsters in
the area.

Alma
Kroqi
Alma Kroqi is the Woodwind Coach for the Greater Waterbury
Youth Symphony. She studied and received her Bachelors Degree in Music
at the Academy
of Fine Arts in Tirana, Albania. She also earned a Masters Degree in
Education from the
University
of Bridgeport.
Alma taught the
flute for many years at the “Jakov Xoxa”
Upper
Music School in Fier and the “Preng Jacova” Upper Music School in
Shkoder, both in Albania. She has also performed in a number of
orchestras and chamber groups in Albania and Austria.
Since coming to the
United States,
she has been teaching band and instruments at the
Kinsella
Magnet School of the Performing Arts in Hartford, CT. as well as
giving private lessons.
